What is God like?
"...I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high
and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above
him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his
face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And
one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of
hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"¯
Isaiah 6:1-3
If you are like me I always like a fresh start and a new
beginning. The old year has past away and behold a new one has come.
With the new year brings opportunity to grow in grace and truth in
our Lord Jesus Christ. You know, the Jesus from the Bible, the only
way to the Father, The Way, The Truth, The Life, fully the Son of
God and fully the Son of Man, very God of very God - that Jesus
Christ.
In today's world it is almost silly that we have to remind people
who we are talking about but is has come down to this. Who is God
for real and what is He like? Is He like your grandpa? a friend?
your manager? your girlfriend? a dictator? Well to answer this we
will have to go to the highest source possible on God - that is what
God says about Himself.
Wayne Grudem says "Just as Scripture is the highest source of
information about itself, God is the highest source of information
about Himself. Therefore, it is important that any study of God looks
at what God says about Himself which is recorded on the pages of
Scripture."
In the sixth chapter of the book of Isaiah we see the picture of
our God and King "sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up." In
today's world this is the last place unbelievers want to see our God
and it is getting to be the last place where even believers put Him
out of neglect. Mankind always wants to put themselves above & before their
creator and today is a wake up call for believers everywhere to
reestablish the highest view of God possible - that is the view that
He has recorded about Himself for us in His Word.
"Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the
earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God"
Psalm 90:1-2
The Psalmist records that "from everlasting to everlasting you
are God!" This needs to be our battle cry for this new year. Let us
with every deed and thought exalt our God and glorify Him who
redeemed us from the pit.
Semper Reformanda!
Love in Christ
